Tooth decay can happen to anyone who is not practicing a healthy oral routine. The root canal gets infected or inflamed and can cause a crack or chip on the tooth. Symptoms can take a toll on a patients daily life. Tooth decay can cause severe toothache pain, swelling or tenderness, tooth discoloration, and sensitivity.
Frequently Asked Questions
How can I prevent a root canal?
You should be avoiding sugary food and drinks. Avoiding regular dental visits and lack of good oral hygiene can also contribute to infections.
Can I avoid a root canal procedure with antibiotics?
Antibiotics cannot treat infections inside the teeth. Once the nerve is infected, a root canal procedure is the only way to save the tooth.
Is a root canal procedure painful?
With any dental procedure, there might be a little pain or discomfort during your appointment. Depending on your tolerance, patients can expect a little discomfort, but anesthetic is provided before the procedure to minimize most if not all of the pain.
How long does a root canal procedure take?
On average it takes about two appointments (split up into 90 minutes give or take). Talk to your dentist to get an accurate estimate for your unique dental needs as some procedures may be more involved than others.
